A ferocious lion was awakened from sleep one day by a tiny mouse. Annoyed, he rose his paw and was about to squash the mouse when the mouse cried out, "Oh, please spare my life, mighty lion. If you let me go, one day I will surely repay your kindness."
The lion was so amused at the thought of a small creature like the mouse ever being of any help to him, that he spared the mouse's life.
A few days later, the lion was caught by a group of hunters. He was bound by rope nets and was unable to escape. The hunters went off for a meal, leaving the lion there, roaring in self-pity.
The mouse heard the roars and hurried to where the lion was. He saw the lion tied up.
"Oh, mouse," said the lion, "I have spared your life once, and you have promised to repay my kindness. Fulfil your promise right now by chewing on the net to release me."
The mouse simply chuckled at him, saying, "Serves you right, you beast. Keep killing other animals as if you're so great. No way I'm helping you."
The lion became so enraged at the mouse that he decided to chew on the ropes himself to set himself free. He was unsuccessful for a while, so the mouse stayed around to mock the lion. But after a few attempts, the lion finally succeeded and escaped from the net.
He pounced on the mouse and killed the tiny creature. The lion then proceeded to kill all the hunters when they came back for him, and enjoyed a wholesome meal of a mouse and a group of hunters.
Morals of the story:
1. Choose your friends carefully.
2. Bad friends make good meals.
