On a sunny day, Rabbit was making fun of Tortoise.
"You are so slow," said Rabbit to Tortoise. "Your feet are so short, and you're clumsy. You might very well be the slowest creature alive."
Tortoise chuckled, before replying, "Though you may be swift as the wind, I will beat you in a race."
"A most ludicrous claim," jeered Rabbit. "Very well, then. Let's see you prove that."
Both of them agreed that Fox should choose the course and fix the goal.
The day for the race soon arrived, and once Fox started the race, Rabbit dashed forward with such speed and swiftness, leaving the slow Tortoise far behind. Rabbit, seeing that it would be a while before Tortoise catches up, decided to lie down by the wayside and take a nap before finishing the race. Tortoise continued with a slow and steady pace without stopping.
In an hour or so, Tortoise finally caught up with Rabbit. At that moment, Rabbit woke up, and dashed past the finish line, winning the race. Tortoise, humiliated and exhausted, had a cardiac arrest and died before reaching the finish line.
Moral of the Story: Know and evaluate your own abilities before doing something.
