When everyone hates you

I'm back with my usual pseudo-philosophical rant once again. All thanks to watching Evangelion.

Anyway, this is a situation that all of us have either experienced or seen at some point. You know, the situation where, in a group of friends, one guy annoys the heck out of everyone, and as a consequence everyone starts to avoid him.

This guy has, but is not limited to, these few choices:

1) Pretend to be ignorant. Be evasive of the problem and pray for a miracle to happen
2) Get the hell out of the group and get into one that will accept him for who he is
3) Change his personality

The first choice is probably the most common. At least that's what anyone would naturally do at first, until things progressively worsen and inevitably something has to be done. If things become out of hand, and the guy still chooses to pretend everything's alright, well, then he's a coward. So choice 1 is essentially a "temporary solution" in most cases.

Choice 2 is more respectable, assuming of course, that the guy is able to find such a group. If he had problems with the previous group in the first place, there's a possibility that the new group wouldn't be too happy with him either. But except in extreme cases, he'll eventually find a group that suits him. Might need severe group hopping. Or he can just opt to be a loner. There's nothing wrong with that, but everyone wants to have friends sometimes.

The third choice is probably the weakest. Why? Because personality isn't clay. You don't mould it as you wish. It should preferrably remain rock-solid. You must stay true to the principles you believe in and hold to.

So if a couple of folks come to you and tell you that they can't stand your attitude, you just change your personality, change your principles, attitude and behaviour to suit their demands? Cowardly. In the end, you end up being nothing but a puppet controlled by other people.

Life is too short to care about what most people think. Everyone has a different view of you. Can you please them all?

The only person you should please and answer to is yourself. If someone brings up a problem with your attitude, and you sincerely feel that it is a bad trait of your behaviour, then fine, you can change (although I don't understand why someone else has to tell you about it and not you realising it by yourself. But I guess it's okay when you really can't detect the bad trait yourself). But living your life just to please other people shows just how weakly you hold on to your beliefs and principles, if you have any at all. Ultimately, you're just living your life by what other people think you should, like a coward without a mind of his own.

If you please just yourself, it'll suffice. So why care? Nobody likes rejection, but you won't be the only one who has to deal with it. Don't be a coward.

The bottomline is, when your universe starts revolving around everybody but yourself, then there's a serious problem with you.
