In Loving Memory: Maria Sue Chapman (May 13, 2003 - May 21, 2008)

I was riding in a car to school today and heard a song over the radio. It was titled "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman. The opening of the song was played on a piano, and I instantly fell in love with it. Later on, I found out that the song was written by Chapman just days before his youngest daughter's death; and that song was written for his eldest daughter who had just gotten engaged.

The title "Cinderella" means daughters will eventually leave the house someday and no longer "belong" to the family as they would take their husband's last name. This song is for all dads out there, to remind them that their daughters will grow up in no time, and leave the house. Just like the story Cinderella. She will only last till the clock strike midnight. So dads, please spend quality time with your daughters before they spread their wings and fly away.

This entry is dedicated to Maria Sue Chapman, the youngest daughter of Steven Curtis Chapman, who was accidentally killed on 21st May 2008 by an SUV driven by her older brother in the family house driveway. She died upon arrival at the Vanderbilt's Children Hospital. She was 5 years old. Steven Curtis Chapman just lost one of his Cinderella. Will you lose yours too? Appreciate your princesses, for one day, without you realizing, they would be gone too.

Here, I dedicate this song to all dads in the world.

Cinderella - Steven Curtis Chapman

She spins and she sways to whatever song plays,
Without a care in the world.
And I’m sittin’ here wearin’ the weight of the world on my shoulders.
It’s been a long day and there’s still work to do,
She’s pulling at me saying “Dad I need you!
There’s a ball at the castle and I’ve been invited and I need to practice my dancin’
“Oh please, daddy, please!”

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don’t wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she’ll be gone

She says he’s a nice guy and I’d be impressed
She wants to know if I’d approve of a dress
She says “Dad, the prom is just one week away,
And I need to practice my dancin’”
“Oh please, daddy, please!”

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don’t wanna miss even one song,
‘Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she’ll be gone
She will be gone.

Well, she came home today
With a ring on her hand
Just glowin’ and tellin’ us all they had planned
She says “Dad, the wedding’s due six months away
And I need to practice my dancin’
“Oh please, daddy please!”

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don’t wanna miss even one song,
(even one song)
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she’ll be gone

*This is the first and only song that I cried listening to.*
