Cough

I have a bad cough. It's killing me and depriving me of sleep. I am pretty sure that if the cough does not stop soon, I'm gonna puncture my lungs from coughing too much. I am beginning to get addicted to the cough medicine. I am now drinking it straight from the bottle without first measuring it with a spoon, and without following the dosage stated. I just drink whenever I cough.
